It’s that time of year again! Can you believe it’s almost Halloween? Me either.
Just last night I was rearranging our pumpkin decorations throughout the house and thought, “How did I lay these out last year? And WHY do I have an extra pumpkin?” We’ve all been there. A couple hours passed and I shifted my focus from tidying the house to prepping today’s post. As if I spoke it into existence, I stumbled upon photos I took last year that have all the house decorations captured- SCORE! You better believe I re-rearranged all the pumpkins to look exactly how they did and I went to bed feeling like all was right in the world.
After looking through these photos, I’m feeling all sorts of nostalgia to get pumpkin carving this year and recreate this moment. I may not have an maternal instinct in my body but let me tell you – I love a kid-centered holiday season. The smiles. The smells. The photos. If I ever were going to become a parent, which won’t happen, but if it did: I would live for the holidays with my kids and force them to do every cliche activity known to man. And they would have no say in the matter. Sittin on santa’s lap? Yep. Passing around handmade valentines? You bet. Wearing head to toe green on St. Patty’s? Duh.
Even though I don’t have kids, I truly enjoyed getting to create this fun for Brandon with his daughter. It’s no secret that stepping into this step-mom-to-be role has been a bit jarring for me and I often have no freaking clue what I’m doing. But all of that evaporated instantly as soon as the pumpkin carving commenced last year.
Last year we did everything right – by accident. I didn’t have some elaborate plan. We were at the store on a Sunday morning and saw pumpkins outside so we decided to make a day of Halloween activities. This included carving pumpkins, making cider, baking seeds, and decorating cupcakes. It was the perfect amount of activities to keep everyone’s hands busy and attention focused. Maybe we’ll try it again this weekend? If we do, this is my go to list for everything I need to buy in oder to do it right.
My Halloween Grocery Checklist:
-Stencils -Apple Cider
-Spooky cupcake decorations
-Lawry’s salt (for the pumpkin seeds of course)
-Trash bags (for the mess)
-Paper towel (to dry the seeds)
-Pumpkin scented candle
Have the best weekend loves. Xoxo Natalie
