Even if it’s just a paragraph, I am committed to this blog writing process. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this yet but I want to write a book. And likely more than 1. By the time I’m 45, I want to have written a New York Times Best Seller. It’s on my bucket list. And if you know me, you know that my bucket list is more like my to-do list. I don’t mess around or lollygag.

Part of this blog process is my daily commitment to this to-do. Even on days when I don’t post, I still write. Sometimes I love what I’ve written. Most of the time I roll my eyes at myself and find things I would like to change or delete. But that’s just part of the process. I have to be okay with being shitty* for a while in order to get better, ya know?

*I initially told my mom I would try not to cuss on this site. She’s right – it’s not very ladylike. But it’s also not very me. I’m not an excessive cusser but I don’t like feeling filtered. The whole idea of this site was to be real, right? I love you mom and I’m sorry in advance. But let’s just rip the band aid off: Fuck. Shit. Damn. Ass.

Phew. That wasn’t so bad.

Back to the book(s). It won’t take me 20 years to write my first book. That will come in the next couple years. I’ve done the math and here’s what I’m thinking – if I write for 2 hours every Monday-Friday for the next 20 years, I will have spent 10,000 hours writing. And according to Malcom Gladwell, 10,000 is the magic number. Read Outliers if have no idea what I’m talking about. If you’re not much of a reader or not serious about becoming great at anything in your life: get over yourself, invest in your future, and read the damn book.

2 months down. 20 years to go. Let’s do this.
